Bunk Beds and other stuff

Shawn and Aidan are the proud owners of bunk beds. They are doing pretty well in them. Aidan has no issues and sleeps through the night. Shawn usually makes his way down the stairs at 1 or 2am and then comes into our room. His sleeping habits at 5 are a work in progress.

Michaela now has a nice twin bed with a beautiful quilt from her cousin Jacque Moon (thanks again Lauraine). She has Princess sheets. Ironically she thinks she is a Princess. Oh how far from the truth could that little devil be. She is, however, fully potty trained. She was a hot mess in the beginning and very combative. At one point her and Michael were in a standoff (aka pissing match) and she announced that she would pee her pants right now. Sweet little girl, ain't she?

Aidan continues to make progress according to his teachers, I have yet to see any of it though. I guess I am just going to go on with life assuming he will forever be non-verbal. It's easier than waiting around desperately hoping for it to happen. What a nice surprise it will be if he does. Aidan is also starting the daunting task of potty training. Why we are doing this when the kid can't communicate his needs yet is beyond me, but I do as the teachers tell me. I guess they like to see me suffer on a regular basis. Hopefully we can get the ball really rolling at the April break.

Life otherwise is quite boring. It's work, Aidan's teachers, coaching for Mike, hanging with the kids, drinking wine/beer, and going to bed. Oh the fun of it.

Shawn has graduated to the 4-year old class. Hard to believe my little man is going to be in Kindergarten in a year. Very scary how quickly they grow up.

Aidan Update

Hi Everyone:

Aidan started his services this week for his diagnosis of Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), which is on the Autism Spectrum. He will get intense Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA) therapy two times a day, 5 days a week, for 90-minutes each session. So he gets it every morning and again every evening. It will work on everything from speech to social interaction to daily living skills (maybe I can bribe them to potty train him and Michaela too). haha

He is already making better eye contact and starting to say a few more words (Ma, choo choo, ball on a regular basis, wee when being pushed on the swing, and understands what GO means and when to use it) in only three short days. The teachers are great and the one who teaches him every morning also does our Parent Training once a week for an hour for the next 6-months. He is responding well and enjoys seeing his teachers. They are working as I write this on identifying body parts and animals.

I will continue to update this site often as it is a good outlet for me to write what's happening (somewhat theraputic) and it's a great way to keep you all updated.

Mommy and Me Photo Shoot

Well they only got one good shot after taking a million, but what a great shot it is. I wasn't there the class before so I had no idea about the photo shoot. So Aidan in his soccer shirt was not really ready for a beach scene. There was one very nice mom who literally gave me the shirt off her son's back, I rolled up his jeans and took off his shoes, and he was beach ready. Too bad I didn't know about it because I would have brought Shawn too.

Wow, what a slacker I am. I missed the whole fall and winter apparently. Well the kids go for their 4-year and 2-year checkups on the 15th so I'll hav esome new information for everyone. I also plan on downloading pics from their birthdays.

Dutch Wonderland Rocked

We had very low expectations going into Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA, but we were so happy with it. It was geared toward ages 2-12 and Shawn and Sara got to go on just about everything. They also had a water park, but because the weather wasn't spectacular we didn't even hit that. The kids had so much fun.

Sesame sucked!!! There were so many teenage kids there it was weird. I thought Sesame would be more geared toward the little kids, but apparently they're not. And they are way to expensive!

Sesame Place

Having a blast at Sesame Place. We are hitting Dutchwonderland tomorrow on the way home. Shawn is loving the waterslide with Mike. He is fearless on the rides too, which is funny. Apparently he does not have his father's fear of heights. I'll post some pics when we get back.

Shawn's First Dentist Visit

Shawn went for his first Dentist visit and had a great time. The whole experience was really nice and not at all scary like it is for us adults. And we don't get a toy at the end of it either, which is another bonus for kids.

First Haircuts

Aidan and Michaela got their first haircuts last month. Michaela can finally see! We had to cut her bangs because she would NOT let us put anything in her hair. It didn't help that Aidan would try and grab it from her head and insert it into her mouth quicker than she could take it off.

Shawn got a buzz cut courtesey of Mike. He was not at all happy about it, but he looks great in his summer cut.

Potty Training Update

Shawn is doing much better with the potty. He almost always goes pee and has done a lot of poops. He still has accidents, but he's gotten a lot better. We still aren't full time undies yet, but we are attempting that next week when we are done with volleyball camp and can police his every move. He is also dry almost every night, which is pleasantly surprising.

Well Baby Visit

The twins went for their 15-month check up and got a clean bill of health. Michaela is right in line with a twin for height and weight and Aidan is off the charts. The nurse didn't think they were twins. He's a lot thicker than her. haha

Michaela is a little chatter box with more than 20-words in her vocab already. This is a far cry from Aidan's three. But the pediatrician said she is a "freak" and he is on schedule. He told us he feels bad for us if she keeps advancing like this. She's already outsmarting us though.

So Shawn continues to poop in his pull up and now we are trying the whole time out thing. We have him sit in the hall (because their is no other place in the house that isn't packed with toys - including the bathroom) on his backyardigans pull out couch. Did us a lot of good...HE FELL ASLEEP. So much for making him think about what he did and why he can't play with this toys now.

Poopy in the Potty - HURRAY!

Yes, it finally happened. Not only did Shawn go poops in the potty, but he actually told me he wanted to go poops. I know he is going to have an explosion eventually because he didn't go yesterday and we only had a few nuggets today. I'll take anything. Mike celebrated so loud that Aidan started to cry hysterically. Poor little guy was frightened. We are currently in our big boy underwear and doing well. Keep your fingers crossed!

DISNEY 2009

Disney was great, but don't go there when the schools are on vacation. The place was a madhouse. Good thing we are terrible parents and had Shawn nap until 9pm and then took him to the Magic Kingdom until 2:30am! HAHA - but we sure did get on everything we wanted without waiting. The weather was chilly for three days, which was fine with me. I would do it again in a heartbeat to see that little boys face light up. That is until we get right up to the characters and then hear "NO LIKE- NO LIKE!!!" Plane ride was great. He loved every minute of it. We might have a future pilot on our hands.

Doctor's Visit

We went to the doctor on Friday, March 27 and everyone is in good health. Shawn and Aidan also went to the cardiologist and they were given a clean bill of health. Neither has to return again - what a relief.

Michaela is starting to walk (and climb) everywhere. She is taking 12 or more steps before falling. Aidan isn't there yet. He just watches her and probably chuckles when she tumbles. Shawn didn't walk until 16-months so we are happy to have just two and not three walking. We'll be running after them in no time flat. We will post some video this week.

We are off to DISNEY with Shawn on Sunday. We will return on Friday. The twins will be having fun at Nana and Papa's house and Grandma and Grandpa's house. We will let you know how it goes.

Aidan & Michaela's 1st birthday

Although the twins don't officially turn one until March 3, we did a family party on the 20th. They just thought it was a regular day with everyone lavishing them with attention. I will upload some video when I download it off of our video camera.

Wow, I can't believe the last post was December 18. I am so bad at updating this. Christmas was great. Mike says that he never thought he would say Shawn has too many toys, but he definitely does. We used to clean up his toys every night. Now we're lucky if we do it twice a week! The twins' had a great 1st Christmas and it was really fun with Shawn. We can't believe we didn't use the whole Santa is watching crap sooner to get him to do more stuff like go to bed, brush his teeth, clean up, etc. We only did it about a week before X-mas. We didn't think he would really understand.

Christmas day was so cute when Shawn woke up all surprised by the presents. Much to his dismay this event odoesn't take place EVERY day after that./ We had him asking for presents for ab out two weeks after. Funny how he understands Santa brings the toys, but he can't wrap his brain around the fact that he only comes once a year. Go figure!

Doctor Visit 12.5.08

Michaela is 16 pounds and 27.5 inches. Aidan is 20 pounds and 29 inches. The visit went well - except for the first round for the flu shot. Which reminds me that we have to make an appointment for round 2.

Shawn is 38 pounds and 3'4". Hard to believe he will be 3 in February. The time sure does fly. We love this age. He is talking more and more each day and he is saying some of the funny things too. He is starting to watch movies for longer periods of time - Finding Nemo is a hit!

We are looking forward to the holidays. Christmas Eve at the Scheer's and Christmas Day with the Legge's. New Year's Eve is in Massachusetts with the Barretts. We are taking Shawn to see the Christmas Tree in NYC on Monday. That should be a lot of fun. We are going to attempt potty training on our two weeks off - that shouldn't be a lot of fun.

Halloween - Finally

Hi Everyone...sorry for the LONG delay in updating.

Shawn and Aidan were Pirates for Halloween and Michaela was a Little Devil (thank you Aunt Christine). We had a playoff game that night and all three were there. They were a hit, that's for sure.

The twins go for their well baby visit on Tuesday. Michaela's two bottom teeth are almost completely in and Aidan has two top and two bottom. Michaela is saying Dadda all the time. Aidan said it pretty clearly tonight. Michaela also says Mama once in a while and Nana. They don't know what they are saying, but it sure does sound good to us. Both are doing the army crawl. They are so close to the real thing.

6-Month Doctor Visit

The twins had their 6-month visit on 9.8.08 and they did great. Aidan is a very large twin according to the doctor, and Michaela is right on target. They both did great with the shots and Shawn was super in the office.

They are up to 3x a day feedings along with bottles. I still don't see a decrease in the bottle making though! Only 6-months to go until they can have milk. When people complain about the milk prices I can't help but laugh. I would rather spend $7 on two gallons of milk a week than $60 a week on formula (but I know you breastfeeding moms are saying I did it to myself, which you are right about).

AIDAN HAS TEETH - and yes, our little chubba got two bottom teeth, literally overnight, last Friday. It was pretty cool - sad part is no one noticed until that night - including my mother who notices everything (in a good way). She actually checked his upper gums that same day and saw nothing. haha - she never checked the bottom though.

First Foods

The twins are having their first foods this week. Very exciting giving them rice ceral with formula...yummy!!! They have no idea what to do with it once it is in their mouth. It is very funny to watch. Aidan goes after it that little chubba. but he doesn't know what to do after he gets it.

Visit with the Family

We had such a GREAT time visiting with Christine, Sean, Katie, and the boys (Finn and Ryan). It was one fo the best weekends ever. It was so nice to just sit around with family and catch up. The Barrett's are SUPER hosts and we can't wait to do it again (we already invited ourselves in December - haha). The only one who had more fun than Mike and I was Shawn.

NEW TEETH!!!!!!

HaHa...I bet you thought I was talking about the twins, but I am actually talking about myself. It's been two (long) years and two months since the accident and I finally got permanent bottom teeth. I should be finished with the top by November if all goes according to plan.

I usually keep my retainer (that has my bottom teeth on it) in a cup in the medicine cabinet (you can't sleep with it in) and this morning I actually got freaked out for a second when I went to get it and it wasn't there. haha... The dentist was actually surprised that I didn't want to keep the retainer! What are these people thinking??? Am I suppose to bronze it and put it next to the baby shoes? haha

The babies are going to the doctor today and I will post the results later.

Shawn at the Park

Shawn spent the day at an awesome park in Ronkonoma. The playground was really great. He went with his friend Joe-Joe and his future wife Sara (we've already arranged the marriage - unless Sara likes younger men and goes for Aidan!). As you can see in the video below, Shawn was very happy to be there. He doesn't say or do much in the video, but you can't help but smile when you see him run from one end of the playground equipment to the other. His excitement is priceless!

Twins Christening

I apologize for not updating sooner. I went back to work on June 2 and it all went downhill from there. I can't get access to the site at work, which would have been great, so I have to do it at home.

Twins Doctor Visit

Aidan is now 14lbs and Michaela is 11lbs. She is only 1 inch behind though in height. Michaela is 23 1/4 inches and Aidan is 24 1/4. They did say that both babies had very long femurs during the sonograms, so she is going to be a tall one as well.

Congratulations to the Barrett family for having a healthy baby boy last night. Ryan William came in at a whopping 11 lbs. 2 oz. and beat his brother Finn's starting weight of 10.5 (and yes, it was natural - way to go Christine!!!!). For now Michaela is still the lone little girl in the Legge family. Gee, I wonder if she'll be spoiled???

Summer Hair

Mike gave Shawn his first buzz cut of the season. It was also the first haircut Mike has given Shawn. It went a lot better than when we take him to the salon.

Shawn is back to his old self again. The twins go for their 3-month doctor visit on May 29. I am back to work on Monday, 6/2. Looking forward to getting a paycheck again!!!

Unfortunately Shawn has had a virus since late Sunday night and it's not pretty. If I have to change one more set of sheets or the futon cover, I am going to go crazy. The washing machine and dryer have certainly gotten a workout. The doctor told us what we already knew - let it run its course and he'll be fine. It's amazing that the rest of us haven't gotten anything yet. Knock on wood!

We're awaiting the arrival of our new niece/nephew who was due a few days ago. We can't wait to find out who the new addition to the family is!!! Good luck Christine and Sean. Finn is going to be a great big brother.

Doctor's Visit

Aidan and Michaela went for their two month check up. Aidan is 12.3 pounds and 151/2 inchces. Michaela is 9.12 pounds and 14 3/4 inches. Shawn is 34.5 pounds according to my home scale. It is a bummer that he doesn't go for well baby visits anymore. We look forward to seeing how big they've gotten. Now we have to do the measuring ourselves. Guess we have to find a spot in the house to start the height tallies.

When Shawn was 2 months, he was 12.12 pounds. Aidan is pretty darn close.

They both screamed like they were being beaten when they got their shots.

Aidan Michael and Michaela Dawn were born on March 3, 2008 at 9:01am and 9:02am respectively. Aidan was 6 lb 13 oz and Michaela was 5 lb 14 oz. That's a lot of baby for twins! They join big brother Shawn Patrick to make three great kids.

Those were not the names we went into the hospital with. If it was a boy and a girl it was going to be Austin and Cameron. While waiting at the hospital we started the trade talks. Michael wanted Michaela and I had always loved Aidan. Neither of us really liked the other's choice of name. Things changed in the hospital and I told him I would give him Michaela if he gave me Aidan and he said "deal". And that's how we got to where we are. Now, of course, we love both the names.

Big Brother Shawn Patrick
